Proofs

A proof is a representation of what the final printed composition will look like. The resolution and quality of different types of colour proofs can vary greatly.

Proofs are intended to show a reasonably accurate sample of how a finished piece is intended to look. Proofs can be in black and white or colour.

Three types of proofs are;

1. Laser
2. Colour PDF
3. Film

Colour PDF PROOFS

Centrica offers a PDF proof so that you can better check your document’s layout, alignment, grammar and spelling. These proofs are printable which makes proofing the job much easier. PDF proofs are sent via e-mail so your job gets proofed quicker.  Please note, however, that you will not be able to check exact colour with a PDF proof.

LASER PROOFS

Laser proofs are black and white or CMYK digital, non-film proofs which can be run out as composites or as colour separated sheets. Lasers are used to check spelling, grammar, image placement, photo cropping and the proper separation of colours. Lasers are the least expensive form of proofing available. However, they are also the least accurate for image detail and colour matching. Composite laser proofs indicate that all colours which will print have been used to produce the laser print-out. Colour-separated laser proofs indicate that each ink colour has been printed out on its own separate laser printout (e.g. CMYK separated laser proofs result in four sheets of laser print-outs; one each for the cyan, magenta, yellow and black).

FILM PROOFS

Film proofs are created using the negatives which have been output on an imagesetter. They are highly accurate representations of what the final printed product will look like and are given to clients for final review, approval, and "sign-off" before the printing plates are made and the order is put on the press. They are also the most expensive and can add to the overall proofing and printing times.
